Seasons greetings to one and all! The countdown to holiday break is speeding toward us. It has been a great start to the school year. When we return to school from break, we will have eight days before we end the first semester on January 11th. As a reminder, we will have a weeklong spring break during the week of March 18th through March 25th. The 25th is a work day/professional development day for our staff. The final board-approved calendar for the 2018-2019 school year does not build in any makeup days for inclement weather. As things currently stand, all days will be made up after the official end of school, May 29th.
After the first of the calendar year, West Burlington Independent School District will start preparations for the 2019-2020 school year. That is difficult to fathom. The school year is going well and fast, but if you or your student has a question or concern, please contact your building principal or your superintendent. I can be reached at [email protected] or call (319) 752-8747, #3. (Click to Read More)
As we speak about planning for next year, our technology committee has met to commence a review of our prospective devices for the continuance of our one-to-one program. We are in our third year of utilizing Chromebooks. The School District is generally happy with the performance of these devices. We will provide the board with a recommendation in early spring, so if you have a distinct view or opinion on our devices or protocols, please contact David Roed, [email protected] to share your views. We have had a little more breakage with our devices this year than we have had in the past. We hope to curtail this during the second half of the school year.
We continue to celebrate the many successes at West Burlington Independent School District. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) accountability report will become public on December 17th. I am confident our stakeholders will be pleased with the data WBISD is reporting. We appreciate the cooperation of our parents, stakeholders, staff, community, and most importantly, our students. We have the best students around! Have a safe and happy holiday season. My door is always open and I am always available to listen to your ideas or concerns. Kids First!
