I would like to take this opportunity to take a moment to update you with more information regarding the four-week school closure recommended by Governor Kim Reynolds.I will be addressing general district level information. Each of you have or will be receiving building-specific information from the building principals.
I also want to take this opportunity to ask you to please contact us should you have additional concerns or needs so that, if possible, we may help you in finding possible solutions.
Faculty Use and Access: All buildings are closed except to non-essential staff. Should a need arise for entry please contact the building administrator or district office. Building administrators will be coordinating device and other materials pick-up over the next few days. Please follow their directives.
Offices will not be covered at all times. E-mail is the preferred method of initial communication. Contact information is found below:
Should you have papers to be delivered, a dropbox has been made available outside the district office located at 607 Ramsey St.
Lunch: West Burlington Schools will be working with Burlington Schools to provide meal access during the closure. It is intended that this service will begin on March 24th or March 25th. More information will be provided in the near future.
Again, should your family have pressing needs for assistance, please reach out to us and we will work to help you in this need.
Activities: No school activities or practices of any kind will be allowed while closed. Coaches and Staff have been directed to have no contact with students related to school activities. All-State activity organizations have suspended activities for 4 weeks. As previously stated, all access to the building except for essential staff is being shut off. The following activities will be postponed or canceled for the year.
Prom: (postponed) A tentative date is being determined. All field trips for the remainder of the year (Canceled) Trip to Italy (Canceled) Senior Graduation: Currently scheduled as planned. Subject to change
If there are any activities that I have missed but are scheduled during this time of closure they are all postponed with a date TBD.
Makeup Days: Last evening the House and Senate proposed and approved that the four-weeks of school will not be expected to be made up by school districts. The Governor has signed the bill.
Following CDC: The purpose of this closure is to provide social distancing. Social distancing increases the space between people and reduces the chance of contagion and spread. It is only effective if we all do our part. We STRONGLY recommend all of our students, staff, and families to follow guidelines shared by the Centers for Disease Control. Do not gather in groups, stay home as much as possible, and reduce your direct interactions with others. For further guidance please see the CDC recommendations on helping our community stay safe and healthy.
Please know that I understand this will greatly impact our community and my hearts and thoughts are with you.
Lisa Beames Superintendent
