Return to School:
On Thursday afternoon Governor Reynolds announced that Iowa schools are recommended to be closed through April 30th.

These days were not forgiven as were the prior missed days. Schools will need to select from three options for continued learning.  These models or options are cited below:

  1. Provide “Voluntary Continuous Learning”  which means that students are engaged in learning provided by their teachers and it is voluntary.  Grades are not given and credit is not granted.
  2. Provide “Required Continuous Learning” which means that students are engaged in learning provided by their teachers and it is required that students participate.  Attendance and grades are given and credit is granted.
  3. Provide no instruction and make the instructional days up when it is considered safe for students, staff and others to participate in this learning.

A school district may use different models for different grade levels as well as start under one model and move to another.

At this time the district will be operating under the “Voluntary Continuous Learning” model. It may choose to move to the “Required Continuous Learning” model as we move through this situation.

The parent meeting for Kindergarten is postponed until further notice. Please know, we will ensure that all information discussed during that meeting will be passed along at a rescheduled date (TBD) or through paper/electronic means.

Open enrollment requests for kindergarten will be addressed once we are more confident about resident student enrollments and before the June deadline per Iowa Code.
Communications about requests for other open enrollment requests are in the process of being sent.
Thanks for you patience and understanding.
No school activities or practices of any kind will be allowed while closed. Coaches and Staff have been directed to have no contact with students related to school activities.  All-State activity organizations have suspended activities for 4 weeks. As previously stated, all access to the building except for essential staff is being shut off. The following activities will be postponed or canceled for the year.

Prom: (postponed) A tentative date is being determined.
All field trips for the remainder of the year (Canceled)
Trip to Italy (Canceled)
Senior Graduation: Currently scheduled as planned.  Subject to change

If there are any activities that I have missed but are scheduled during this time of closure they are all postponed with a date TBD.

Following CDC:
The purpose of this closure is to provide social distancing. Social distancing increases the space between people and reduces the chance of contagion and spread. It is only effective if we all do our part. We STRONGLY recommend all of our students, staff, and families to follow guidelines shared by the Centers for Disease Control. Do not gather in groups, stay home as much as possible, and reduce your direct interactions with others. For further guidance please see the CDC recommendations on helping our community stay safe and healthy.
